Ever since eBay was clobbered by Google for search manipulation and started to insist on product identifiers and later used those identifiers to start to show product reviews we have been expecting them to use all this new information to work on their version of the Buy Box.
We now think this is close to being a reality.
This week we have seen what we think is the half way house Buy Box.
Look at any product listing which is of an established product with the correct identifiers – EAN (Barcode) and/or MPN (Manufacturers Part Number) and at the top of the listing in the area of Category you will start to see a page like this:
Click on the ‘See more Draper Expert…..’ and this is what you will see:
This is a page showing the same item from other sellers, with, crucially a page showing a ‘Top Pick’!
If this isn’t a direct imitation of the Amazon Buy Box then it’s a good copy. Actually it may even be a better incarnation.
There is no ‘Buy Now’ button – but it could come and right in there is the products’ Seller Star Rating. Just like Amazon.
We also think this could well be the new SERP (Search Results Page) in Beta.
The Top Pick does rotate but in our tests doesn’t always show the lowest price or the seller with the best feedback or Top Rated Seller rating.
What does this mean for you as a seller? Well of course the aim is to win the Buy Box.
How? We don’t know given some sellers are featured/rotated with poor feedback and higher prices.
You could help by having a main image which is better/different to the manufacturers image used by virtually all sellers, you may also help by offering free returns – as this is shown in the Top Pick area.
What do you think?
